Earned Value:

Earned Value is the true measure of value produced once operational inefficiencies have been stripped away

Lost Value / Lost Efficiency:

Lost Efficiency is the counter part to Earned Value and quickly shows where operational efficiency can be improved.

Example of how Earned Value vs Lost Value is calculated:

• If a machine runs for one hour at its programmed feedrate, one hour of earned value is recorded.
• If a machine runs for one hour at 50% of its programmed feedrate, 30 minutes of earned value is recorded and 30 minutes of lost value is recorded.

OE / Process Efficiency / Incycle Efficiency:

Earned value / run time. From the example above: 30 minutes of earned value / 60 minutes of total run time = 50%.

Remaining Capacity:

The total number of idle machine hours of all machines being monitored. This does not take into account scheduled downtime.

Utilization data is shown for each location and a multi-site average. Tips for analizing this data:

• This data shows when the machines are running (this does NOT include setup or operational time, just machine time). It does not show Operational Efficiency, but will let you know when your machines sit idle.
• Unscheduled time is set in the Admin / Global Settings / Locations area. This is a helpful guideline so you can quickly sort relevant and irrelevant data.
• The multi-site data is a weighted average. (example: Say you had two locations where one location has 10 machines which run 100% of the time and the other location has one machine which never runs. The weighted average tells you that between the two locations, your machines run 90.9% of the time. Without this, it would show that your machines only run 50% of the time.
• If the machines are running for longer than the scheduled time, 'Idle Time' will seem to shrink (and possibly disappear) in these graphs because the in this illustration, 'Idle Time' is shown as the running time subtracted from scheduled time. This does NOT impact any recorded data. If this is the case in your situation, consider setting the location schedule to more accurately reflect actual operational hours. This is done in Admin/GlobalSettings/Locations under the 'Edit Op Hours' button.
• Use Utilization data along with the OE data to get more out of the process. Low utilization may be ok for your operation (depending upon your requirements and staffing) as long as the OE numbers are good.

Operational Efficiency data is shown for each location and a multi-site average. Tips for analizing this data:

• This OE data does not show how much the machines ran, but shows the rate at which they ran while running as compared to the programmed feedrate.
• The data is a key indicator of engineering and operations being on the same page and should be managed to be as high as possible. Unlike the Utilization graphic, this one includes stopped machine time for setup and operational time. Both running and stopped operational times contribute to production efficiency.
• If the operators are changing the feedrate at the machine, the operator and programmer / ME should consult to see if the program feedrate needs to be adjusted or if the operator should run at the currently programmed rate. (The operator is the eyes and ears of the operation. Encourage communication when there are differences shown here)
• Setup / Teardown time is an interrupt code which may be added by the operator as it occurs. Time may also be tagged as Setup / Teardown by an MCS administrator in the reconcile area.
• Operational time is an automated interrupt code which is applied when the machine goes out of cycle for a short period of time. Typically when a machine stops in these brief periods, its because the operator has a function to complete such as measurements or other. The period of time can be customized or turned off in the Admin / Global Settings / ColorsGauge tab under OE Timeout Settings.

Shifts are created / edited in the Admin tab under Schedules. Creating a schedule with the type set to "shift" will make that data appear here.

Note: Multiple shifts may be applied to a single location. At this time, shift schedules are applied to all machines at the location. In the future, shifts will likely be tied to the Cell and not the location.
